What was the official attendance?
53,212 is what is listed, but it looks more like 23,212.
Charlotte will be a ton better than Jax or Tampa for just about any matchup not involving either FSU or Miami. It's much closer for VT, Clemson, UVa, UNC, NC State, Wake or Md.
It doesn't matter for BC because they don't travel, period, and you know Duke will never be in it. Even Atlanta (GT) is closer to Charlotte than Jax.
Compare that to the SEC...the two furthest schools from the title game site in Atlanta are Arkansas and LSU. Yet they are still closer to Atlanta than VT, UVA, Md, and BC are to Jax or Tampa.
I disagree on the grounds that Jacksonville in incredibly inaccessible for northern teams, namely boston college, maryland, virginia, etc. Both alumni bases had only a week or so to mobilize. The ACC championship can be a successful event if Swofford and the administration will stop mismanaging the conference's affairs.
In fairness geography is more a factor in the ACC than the SEC. SEC schools are more centrally located in the Southeast, and so therefore they have fewer problems making the trip to Atlanta, which is sort of the geographical center of SEC country.
The ACC title game will succeed if it alternates between sites in Washington (Fedex Field) and Charlotte (Panthers Stadium). This will enable more teams from the extreme northern and southern ends to bring out the fans.
Tampa Bay is less accessible than Jacksonville, and they will have bad attendances next year too unless they can find a way to get both Miami and FSU in the title game. My school is in the ACC, but I hate the politics in the organization. The virginia schools got screwed over by the conference alignment in football, by aligning the divisions "randomly." So I ask ya, why is it that Miami and FSU, traditional rivals get the luxury of different divisions, and UVa and Tech dont. This reeks of inequity, and I for one believe that there is no justice in this current bunch of white collar criminals who run the conference in order to meet their own agendas by giving all the benefits to the Florida and Carolina schools while everybody else gets screwed. Swoffard and his cronies must GO!
